Only If It Could Tell Stories

Yesterday afternoon I went for a stroll in the woods where we park hoping to take some photos of birds and wild game. Instead I stumbled upon this deserted home (how long I don't know) but can you imagine the stories it could tell if it talked. I would have many questions to ask like how old are you, how many family's have lived with you, the happy times, and the sadness that has occurred over the many years. What did the family(s) do for a living? Why are you vacant and on and on.I guess this blog could mirror Speedys recent blog about sitting on the rock.

The longer I set there my mind traveled back in time about what was the family like that built this home raised children, worked, schooled, worshipping, deaths, achievements, hardships and failures.
Here is the back of the home.

And, guess what they were RV'ers! Here is a photo of their travel trailer. I can't imagine us today full timing in this little blue thing. I am sure they used it for weekend outings, going too The Lake O' Pines which is about 25-30 miles east of us. it's a COE park and has several camping sites. We like to stay at the Johnson CG.

We've had several inquires about the purse inserts we peddle at Canton and other craft shows. Here is some photo's and brief info on them. For more you can go to our web page www.cantontradedays.com/sandyspurse/sandyspurse.htm

We finally... after five months since Hurricane Ike hit the Houston area received a settlement from my Mother's insurance company to repair her roofs and the damaged done inside the home due to water leakage from the rain. Now if the contractor can schedule the job and repair the damage we can put the home on the market. I know my sister will be glad as unfortunately she has had to dealt with it since she lives in Houston.
The past 10 days have just been wonderful as far as the weather goes. Cold at nights but just great days. Clear blue skies and in the mid 50's to low 60's. Little windy though, hope this holds thru Canton weekend Jan 30-Feb 1.

Well I,ve run out of things to say so I leave you for now.

Sounds Like Hail

It doesn't look like hail but the other night with the last cold front it certainly sounded like hail on the roof. The picture to the left is actually a sweet gum ball from a large sweet gum tree we park near. When it sheds it's thorny balls and the wind is real high they bombard the motor home. This is not a new phenomena as it happens every year but sometimes it catches you off guard like the other night.

This is what it looked like the next morning all those brown looking spots on the ground are sweet gum balls.

You do not want to step on them barefooted as they hurt. On well... another season of gum ball droppings and we will rake them up when they finish dropping.
We've had some of our friends ask about First Monday grounds. Here is a map of the grounds, we are in Pavilion 4000 booth 4271. As you can see this is a huge flea market. They say if you can't find it at Canton it doesn't exist.

We purchased four new tires last week for the Jeep. Remember I drug the tread off the front tires because I failed to unlock the steering wheel when towing. How stupid of me. I shopped at four different tire dealers in the Longview area and Sams had the best price on the tires I wanted to put on the Jeep.

In the middle of the week I spent about four hours on the roof sealing and caulking the seams and around the vents. You see we had a leak inside the bath area and as most of you who own RV's know its hard to tell where the water is coming from. I believe I found the seam where the water entered (the side cap on the drivers side where two crowns join had the sealant missing in several spots). We have not had rain yet... sooo I really don't know if I fixed the the area where the water has been coming in from.

The weather during the day has been near perfect. A little cold but the sun has been out for the past three days. I might add however that it does get cold at night. Speaking of night the full moon last night was just beautiful.

I see the price of fuel is climbing back up here in North Texas. It's still cheaper than the $4 we saw several months ago. Lets just hope it doesn't get that high again. If it does we all might have to revert back to the Original SUV.

I've been watching the playoffs this weekend. While I don't have a particular favorite, I can say so far its good to see the underdogs whip up on the Divisional Champs in each bracket. Maybe we will have all new teams in the Super Bowl this year. Can't believe how the the Arizona Cardinals whipped up on the Carolina Panthers.

The sunset here this evening is just beautiful must get some pictures.

Happy Belated New Year

We spent our New Year at Canton's First Monday and was not able to do any posting. Sandy and I wish everyone a Happy, healthy and may you have many blessings for the coming year. May each of you be all you can be and want to be in 2009.
January Canton was a good weekend for us not only in the selling of our purse inserts, we also got to visit some long time friends, Joe and Sherri. We had a great lunch at Jewels in Canton and then followed them to their base to see their new "Dream RV" 5th wheel. What a nice home! Joe also showed me his shop and boy what a shop everything one needs to do master craftsman and handy work etc. He also showed us the drawers he made for Sherri's cabinets and I can only say what a craftsman! We had a great visit and caught up on some of their plans when Joe retires.

Here is a photo of Sandy's (and mine too) family at Christmas.

2008 did not have a real good ending for Sandy and I as we had some unusual problems with the home and towed. We ran our battery down by leaving some accessory on in the home on wheels and due to my stupidity... I failed to place the key in the proper location to unlock the front wheels and yes it did nearly drag all the tread off the front tires. Sooo looks like we are going to have to purchase new tires for the Jeep.

The weather at Canton was very unusually hot and then very cold Sunday (ONLY IN TEXAS). We had a good crowd Thursday, Friday and Saturday and the usual crowd for Sunday (tire kickers) people who come for turkey legs and to get out of the house. We've had rain all day today and it looks like it has settled in for the next few days. Hope we can see the sun soon.

WOW What a Game!!!!!!
