June Canton First Monday

We are at Canton for next weekend First Monday. All I can say is its hot and we don’t see any relief coming our way. We were up at 5am Friday morning and on the road to Canton by 6am. We wanted to make the two hour trip in the cool of the morning to make it easier on the motorhome and tires. We arrived at 8 am and was set up by 9:15 where afterwards went to breakfast at the Dairy palace.

Today we watched the NASCAR Nationwide race at Charlotte, NC where Kyle Bush was able to pull out another win. He came from 2 laps down to win  his second consecutive races, four of the last eight events and has moved within a point of leader Brad Keselowski. Busch overcame some early troubles to win the Nationwide race. This  was his final race in the second-tier series for three weeks. He’s planning to step away to focus solely on the Cup series. Tomorrow will be a full day of racing with the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway . Sure glad we got some of our booth set up chores out of the way today.

Our neighbor Woody came over this morning and asked me to take a look at his fresh water connection and help him determine why water was pouring from his house fresh water filter. He said he just recently had his Holiday Imperial 42 ft motorhome in to the dealer and they changed out all his filters plus serviced the engine and chassis. I could only suspect they left the filter gasket off or there was some trash between the canister and the filter mount. I came back and got my filter removable tool and after taking off the filter we found they had left the water filter gasket off. Now in this town where are you going to find a water filter gasket. There is a Ace hardware store in town and who would believe it that had one that was the size for his filter canister. We got back and installed it and had no leaks. Woody said he had spent quite a  bit of monies for this incompetence and was certainly going to call them come Tuesday.

We made a trip to Wal Mart today and what a mistake this being Memorial weekend the place was wall to wall with people. What normally is a thirty to forty minute shop we were in there one hour and twenty minutes.

Speaking of Memorial Day weekend, we don’t want to forget those who for love of country made the greatest sacrifice of all, they accepted death. Also the active duty men and women should be in our prayers every day as it is these young people who give us our freedom. And, there are our our veterans. if it wasn't for them no telling what language we might be speaking today. And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. ~Lee Greenwood

We may drive to Tyler Monday to the Best Buy. They have a Apple Support Center their and we want to look at the Ipad some more.

My Night At The Sleep Apnea Clinic

Sandy and I left yesterday afternoon for VA Shreveport for my over night stay. I might add here is Sandy is my main driver as I have difficulty seeing with my right eye not fully recovering from the torn retina surgery I had about three years ago. We left early as Sandy wanted to go by the Best Buy store in Shreveport who has an Apple Support Center as she wanted to check out the new Ipad. All we can say is Wow!!!! Is there possibly a new IPad in the family soon??? Only time will tell us but it sure had both our interest. We even learned of an App that you can download and print from your wireless printer plus many many more.  After bending the Apple Techs ear for about 45 minutes we left and had dinner at the Golden Corral. Their all you can eat menu for $10.00 wasn’t a good choice as we both left with our tummies full.

We arrived at the clinic and to my surprise I wasn’t there to check out the Cpap machine but instead they were going to do a Polysomnogram (PSG) sleep study on me.

The health care provider placed electrodes on my chin, scalp, and the outer edge of the  eye lids. These must remain in place while you sleep. Signals from electrodes are recorded while you are awake (with your eyes closed) and during sleep. The time it takes you to fall asleep is measured, as well as the time it takes you to enter REM sleep.

Monitors to record your heart rate and breathing were attached to my chest. These also must remain in place while you sleep. The specially trained health care provider directly observe me while I  tried to sleep and noted any change in my breathing or heart rate. The number of times that you either stop breathing or almost stop breathing were measured. There was also a video camera that  recorded my movements during sleep or trying to sleep I might add. With 27 electrodes  on your face, head and chest with all the wires attaching them to the monitor it was very difficult to sleep. One of the questions I was asked was “How did you sleep” my answer was sleep what’s that???

I will know something soon they tell me. The tech did say I did momentarily stop breathing one time. I don’t know if this was good or bad but when we got home we both crashed and burned.

Until next time….MtnAire Travlers.

Uline Ice Maker Update

The dealer we took our Uline Ice Maker to called and said he had completed his check and found nothing wrong with the unit. So, off to Longview we went to pick it up. Upon arrival we asked many questions and he had no answer as to why it would trip our GFI breaker. Other than he did say they don’t recommend the unit be plugged into a GFI breaker. We explained that wasn’t our doing it came that way from Newmar.

His helper came in and told us that he did find a very small pin hole in the !/4” plastic line that  runs from the water valve to the inlet. It was so small he said that a drip of water would appear only every now and then. He said he moved the line  from where it was being pinched and the water started flowing out the line. Could this have been our problem? Time will tell when we connect it again in the  motorhome. Got back that evening hooked it up and it’s been running like a champ. The volume of ice making also appears to be faster. Did this slight pin hole leak cause enough moisture to trip the GFI? I really don’t know but is working now.

Last night we watched the NASCR All Star race and those last ten laps turned out to be the best we’ve witnessed in a while. We would have liked to have see younger brother Kyle win but Kurt’s win was a good alternative. Today is the official ingurgitation of the five to the NACSAR Hall of Fame. We are so glad that Dale Sr. will be one of the five. image Dale was Sandy’s and my driver when we watched NASCAR races long ago. We were so sad when we lost him to the point we quit watching races for about a year.

Tomorrow night I will spend the night with VA Shreveport at the Sleep Apnea clinic where I get to try the CPAP machine.  Hope I do better as the first night I spent with VA was a very restless night.

Until next time….MtnAire Travlers

More Visitors and ULine Ice Maker

image We’ve had some new visitors at the bird feeders. Yesterday morning while bird watching Sandy noticed a movement on the ground near the bird feeders. In looking close we discovered a small Jack Rabbit feeding near the  feeders. This little guy or girl was just eating away and every now and then would stop and lick himself or herself. Then it would hop a little and all of a sudden two black crows landed near the rabbit. Let me tell you they were not happy with the rabbits presence near their food on the ground. They actually attacked the rabbit from the front and back,. When they would peck the rabbit it would jump straight up like a bouncing ball. They were finally able to persuade the rabbit to leave their area. image

Later that morning we had another rabbit show up but this time no crows. It was able to graze without being tormented. As far as I know it might have been the same little rabbit.

Yesterday afternoon Sandy told me the Uline ice Maker was tripping our breaker again but, this time when we reset the breaker it would trip again. This doesn’t look good so, I took it out of the cabinet it was mounted in and inspected it for possible water that may have leaked on the electrical panel. No water soooo it must be the compressor or fan motor that has gone bad. We loaded it into the Jeep and headed to the Uline dealer in Longview. This is a one man operation and guess what when we got to his place of business he wasn't there and had a note he would return at 12.:30 pm. Gosh what are we going to do for three and one-half hours. I know lets go to Best buy and look at laptops. After about two hours there we came away with some possibilities for Sandy’s laptop. No decision made yet though. We have ruled out the netbook. For the price of it she can get a HP laptop for about the same price and in a smaller package than the standard laptop. It also has a lot more features, operating systems with a 4G Hard drive and 500G memory. That afternoon the Uline guy called and said he was back. Off we go to his place across town where we dropped the Uline off and it will be three to four days before he can give us a verdict. Our decision on the laptop will have to be put on hold tell we know the outcome of his inspection. The MSRP price on this guy should we have to buy one is $1,068.00. Ouch! Let's hope it is something simple.

Visitors

We have had our bird feeder up now for about ten days and we‘ve had all sorts of visitors to it. Some we can identify and others we have guessed or do not know their species. We have not been bird watchers long like some of the fellow bloggers but we certainly have become hooked on bird watching. We now keep our bird bath full of water and it is exciting to watch our feathered friends bath and drink from it.

Our first visitor we believe to be a Indigo Bunting imageThe Red Cardinal imageWe believe this to be a Eastern Blue Bird (photo by others did not stay in one place long to capture a picture) imageOf course we’ve had the Blue Jay, Mockingbird, common Sparrow, Blackbird, and yes the squirrels visit our bird feeders. The Blue Jay is the bossy bird and likes to run all the other birds off. Also for some reason they don’t stay at the feeder long enough to capture a picture. They seem to be more jittery than the Cardinal family and the Blackbirds.  Now if I had a set up like Al with the Bayfield Bunch my photos would be a lot sharper and closer. He has some of the best bird and flower shots I’ve seen.

Sandy and I have been helping BIL James to do some more land clearing and soon we should be able to put in sewer and electrical. We now have water to the land and all we need to do is run a line over to where we plan to put in a pad and drive way.image

I mowed the three acres today and with the lack of rain now the grass is not growing as fast as it was as I was able to go ten days between mowing. Usually it has been every five to six days. We are due for some rain maybe this weekend.image Sandy and I went to Longview yesterday and dropped by Best Buy for her to look at some of the smaller laptop netbooks that are available now. Outside her wanting to search the web she also likes looking up cooking websites, coping and saving  recipes. They usually come with 1GB memory and 160 to 250 GB of hard drive. This probably will be ample enough for her. Of course there is the Ipad but I’m not sure about software like Microsoft Word being available. Also the Ipad is quite pricey now.

The Dangerous Brown Recluse Spider

People will be digging around, doing yard work, spring cleaning, and sometimes in their attics. Please be careful.
Spider bites are dangerous and can have permanent and highly negative consequences.
They like the darkness and tend to live in storage sheds or attics or other areas that might not be frequented by people or light.
If you have a need to be in your attic, go up there and turn on a light and leave it on for about 30 minutes before you go in to do your work.

Happy Mother’s Day

!cid_image004_gif@01CAC1E9

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there and especially to my dear wife Sandy. Of course my Mom which has been a mom for 73 years. (I just gave my age) I wish you a special Mother’s Day .

Happy Mother's Day" means more
Than have a happy day.
Within those words lie lots of things
We never get to say.

It means I love you first of all,
Then thanks for all you do.
It means you mean a lot to me,
And that I honor you.

But most of all, I guess it means
That I am thinking of
Your happiness on this, your day,
With pleasure and with love.

Until next time….MtnAire Travlers.

Catching Up

Sunday, May  2, 2010

We had our normal crowd of people on Sunday and the usual lookers. Sure thankful for the prior three days of sales. We were a little late tearing down our booth as Sandy helped our neighbors load out first as they had to get back to Lufkin as her husband was to have bladder surgery Monday morning. We were going to stay at our usual site across the way at the creek side but due to the crowds there were still two 5er’s parked where we usually stay Sunday night.

So, we drove down toward the gate and backed intro a spot to drain our holding tanks. I ran the hose to the sewer dump site and pulled the gray water valve and within seconds the gray water started to back up and run on the ground. Yuk! Yes, I know you do your black water first but in this case I’m sure glad it was the gray water. I don’t know why this always happens down in this area when we have a large crowd of RVers but it does. I guess the system just can’t handle large gathering of RV’s. Soooo, we decided to drive on into base at Lone Star and dump at the Loves tuck stop.  Would you believe we drove right by the Loves and didn't even realize it.

Sign  Our next plan was to go to the Antique Capital RV Park in Gladewater for the night as it was getting dark and we don’t like pulling into base in the dark. This park is a PA,  FMCA and TACO park. Their nightly rates are $29 for full hookups. There pads are concrete and very level. Our overnight stay allowed us to do our laundry before leaving for base. Sandy got the washer going and we were off to find a place to eat dinner. Not to many places open on Sunday evenings in this town but we found a Mexican food restaurant that was fairly good.

Monday, May 3, 2010

We pulled out of the park at  8:30 am and in 45 minutes arrived at base. After hooking up the motorhome we went to the bank in Mt Pleasant and Wal-Mart to pick up groceries for Sandy’s mom and ourselves.  Upon our return I decided to mow the three acres and weed eat the fence and culverts. BIL James had made a lot of progress on clearing some more on his four acres and was in the process of laying down his water lines to his future home and had marked the ground for a water line to our site. We had a light rain Monday night and I was sure glad I had the mowing chore behind me.

Tuesday May 4, 2010

We helped pick up small branches and limbs in the area where James is going to start his pad. We also watched the digging of more trenches for his water line. They laid the line to his site and tested for leaks before burying the water pipe. They will star on our line maybe next week. We are making a little progress of having a site that will have full hookups. Gosh wont have to use the blue boy to dump anymore. What are we going to do?

Wednesday May 5, 2010

Sandy was up early as she had to take her mom into Longview for her 90day check up. She had blood work at 8am and the doctor visit wasn’t till 1:30pm. So in between they visited her sister Pam and Mike. I stayed back and did some more weed eating and hedge trimming. When Sandy finally got back about 4pm and she had with her a bird feeder that Pam gave to us. I installed it out on a tree near the motorhome so we could watch the bird activity.  Well we didn't have any that evening as I guess it was to late and they were all in their perches for the night.

Thursday May 6, 2010

image That brings us today and now we are caught up with the going ons of the MtnAire Travlers. Here is our first visitor at the bird feeder. I don’t know what it is but it was small and blue.

Until next time MtnAire Travlers.

A Fall Crowd At First Monday In May?

image Who would have thought that our crowds for First Monday in May would be like a fall crowd. Yes, we have had crowds all three days so far. Parking lots are full and crowds in the aisles just like we see in October/November. They have been on the loud speakers in our pavilion asking people that have double parked to move or be towed. You can not get out on your cell phones due to the number of hits on the cell tower in the area. I’m sure my air card will be a little slower when I post this tonight.

All the restaurants in town last night had imagelong lines in the evening for dinner.  Our wait at Papadales was thirty minutes last night and there were still people standing in line when we left.  Sandy’s sister Pam and her husband Mike dropped by yesterday evening and they couldn’t believe the traffic. It took them about forty minuets to get into the parking lot. Tonight we plan on eating at the motorhome because we know the crowds will be heavier at all of the eating places.

The weather has manage to stay nice even though we had a thunder storm come up yesterday evening right before closing. It rained off and on most of the night  but today we awoke to a beautiful blue sky with temperatures around 78F.

Not only was the crowd great the best of all is they came to buy. Our sales have reflected a Fall show. Sandy has sold out a lot of the primary colors in both the small and medium size purse inserts. Who would have guessed it. May is normally a mediocre month for most of us here in Canton but not this one. We are soooo great full particularly since we are about to go through the summer months where the crowds are not as good.

Here are a couple photos of the parking nightmare.image imageimageThe Kentucky Derby this evening was such a great race even though the track was muddy. Jockey Calvin Borel rode Super Saver to victory in the 136th Kentucky Derby. Borel has won three of the past four Kentucky Derby's. At one point of the race all the horses appeared to be the same color due to all the mud they were throwing up. What about the guy who took home $900.000.00. The NASCAR Sprint Cup 300 mile race at Richmond tonight is about to start. Boogty,,,Boogty…Boogty.

Until next time….MtnAire Travlers..
