Our Trip Into Longview

image Tuesday, we were up about 6am and headed out to Longview about 6:45am. The sun was just barley coming up as we traveled east on I-20 which is also known as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway. Sandy nor I knew this until we saw for the first time a sign posted just out of Canton.
We stopped in Kilgore at a Whataburger right off I-20 for breakfast and their inside decor theme was Elvis Presley and that music era. Not all franchises have a theme for their decorations so I guess it depends on the person who opens the franchise. We have been in several that have NASCAR, one that has NFL Dallas Cowboys and one with sports cars and old motorcycles as themes.

We arrived at the VA Clinic about 9:30am thirty minutes prior to my first appointment with the nutritionist and afterwards I saw my VA doctor. We were in and out by 11:30am. Being close to lunch time we headed to a Juices hamburger restreaunt before heading back to the motorhome in Canton. We had intended to go to Tyler but Sandy had a flare up with her gallbladder which nipped that idea in the bud. Joe, the Mexican food restraunt that serves the good cheese enchiladas is not El Tore's as previously reported its Gilberts El Charro. Sorry about that .

Today we finished setting up our booth and our RVing crowd has started arriving as early as Monday. It looks like all the RV spots may be taken. There are sill some spots at the creek side and over at the circle. Woody who owns a 42ft Holiday Rambler Imperial and is a vendor here came over and asked if I knew of any RV Service Repairmen that made calls to the grounds. It seems his Dometic refrigerator has quit working. We gave him several numbers and one did come out and found that it had burned up. It seems the issue that Dometic issued a national recall on had not been addressed. Woody called his dealer and asked why didn't he get the recall letter and they didn't have an answer for him. Hope he gets a new one without cost. Fortunately it didn’t catch his motorhome on fire.

Sandy’s gallbladder flare up is a lot better but she is having to watch what she eats and drinks for a while. One of our neighbors from the Lufkin area just arrived and we helped her unload her trailer and setup her booth.

Lady Baylor Bears 51-Duke 48

Those Lady Baylor Bears manage to do what the Baylor men could not do. They beat the Lady Duke Blue Devils and made it into the Final Four. The thing that is so amazing is they did it with freshmen and sophomores. Brittney Griner caught a pass, spun around and hit a short jumper with 45 seconds left to propel fourth-seeded Baylor to a 51-48 win over No. 2-seeded Duke for its second trip ever to the Final Four.  What a game………go Lady Bears!

The weather here at Canton has almost been perfect even though we had very high winds on Saturday and Sunday. I have managed to get that detail bug again and spent most of the past two days outside doing different cleaning chores on the motorhome. It sure felt good reorganizing and cleaning out the bays. I also cleaned the inside of the bay doors and afterwards 303 all the door gaskets and inside the door panels.

Carla Pumpkin We learned today our neighbors across the way will not be coming back to Canton after this month. We sure hate to see that but understand their reasons. They are like family and we will miss them.

Tomorrow we are up early as we have to drive into VA Longview for my doctors appointment at 10am. Hope to learn what they have decided on the sleep apnea test I took about three weeks ago. We will probably make our monthly trek to Tyler afterwards. I want to eat at El Tore's Mexican food restaurant. Their cheese enchiladas are among the best I’ve eaten.

Until next time….MtnAire Travlers.

Arrival At Canton

011

We arose early as we wanted to have breakfast at Arnold’s with BIL James. We were on the road to Canton by 7:30am arriving without incident about 10am. The kind of trips we love. The traffic seemed to be very light for I-20 not near the number of eighteen wheelers we usually see on our trip. We stopped at the Loves Truck Center to empty our black and gray water tanks.  On our drive there were signs of spring everywhere. The fruit trees are in full blossom and the leafs on the trees are budding.Blog2 Photos20090323 009 Won’t be long and we will see that green pollen stuff all over everything. After arriving and getting setup Sandy did her pink jobs and I did what blue jobs there were since we don’t have sewer and water at our spot. This afternoon I worked some more on the aluminum wheels. Sandy made a trip to Wally World for some groceries.

After a pizza dinner we settled in to some NCAA men's basketball games and Sandy did a little reading. Boy, did Baylor blow out St. Mary's. We are at the Sweet Sixteen level which is when my interest in March Madness kicks in.

While reading blogs the other evening I noticed how interesting it was that fellow bloggers Retired Rod, Tin Teepee/Log Cabin and The Bayfield Bunch all seemed to arrive back at their homes about the same time. We really enjoyed reading your journals and the pictures of your visit to the Great Southwest. We are looking forward to them again next winter.

Old Man Winter Still Has A Strangle Hold

old-man-winter Winter is having a difficult time of letting go. Boy, did we have a system roll through here last night. Lighting, thunder, wind and heavy rain for the most part of the night was his game. Today the wind is out of the west 20-25 mph with gust 30-35 mph. Our low tonight is suppose to be 38F. Sure glad we washed the motorhome yesterday (thanks Sandy for your help). I had left my stool on the roof as I wanted to get back up there today to 303 the vents, satellite dome and AC shrouds. With the weather like it was I only went up to retrieve the stool. The rest will have to wait tell it gets a little warmer. We are making preparations for our move to Canton tomorrow. After First Monday, we are thinking we might travel to Camping World Ft. Worth TX to have them service the new refrigerator we purchased from them  last year about this tine. The three year warranty calls for this service in order for it to remain in  effect.

On Monday Sandy’s sister Pam and her husband dropped by on there way back home and visited a while. They had been in Atlanta TX visiting Mike’s mom in the nursing home there. We had lunch at the Wildflower in Hugh Springs with BIL James. Afterwards we moved some more branches and tree limbs to the burn pit.

Tuesday we went into Longview as I had an appointment with VA to have my monthly PT/INR level checked and afterwards we ventured over to Wally World for supplies. Picked up med at Walgreens for her mom.

Wednesday was just a beautiful spring day. Like I mentioned earlier a day for washing the motorhome. Sandy washed and I dried. It took us a little longer as we also 303 the tires and I waxed on the aluminum wheels. Will wrap this project up after we get to Canton.

This pretty well brings us up to date on our week so far. Really been exciting hasn’t it.

A Visit By Our Youngest Son Tim

tims visit 2010 021 Tim our youngest son along with his friend Melanie paid a visit to us this weekend. Unfortunately, the weather did not corporate as it rained and snowed all weekend. But, we did not let that discourage us. We watched a marathon of DVD movies (a total of five altogether). Lets see we watched The Proposal, Raising Helen, An Unfinished Life, Did You Hear About The Morgan's, and Knotting Hill. Did you noticed all of these were about about couples and romance….. No action or westerns I wonder why? The movie that everyone seemed to like and voted as the best was The Proposal with Sandra Bullock. Melanie brought along two huge bags of her home made peanut butter and ranger cookies that we were able to munch on during the movies. Sandy prepared two excellent dinners for us and the lunches were sandwiches and dips.

tims visit 2010 026 Sunday morning we woke up to snow. We had breakfast at Whataburger in Mt Pleasant and sent them on their way back to Austin TX. I wished the weather had been better as we had plans to show them the sights and sounds of Northeast Texas. But, in a way the bad weather and staying inside helped us learn a lot about them. Tim brought us up to date on our granddaughter Kaylea who turns 16 in May. She is very athletic and smart he tells us. Her volleyball skills probably will get her a scholarship at some college. We are so proud of her.

On our drive imageback to Lone Star I took this picture and at first glance it reminded me of the Aspens you see in Colorado. Only these were pines with snow that has collected only on one side due to the 25-30 mph wind out of the northwest. By the time we arrived back to the motorhome it had stopped snowing.

tims visit 2010 004 Earlier in the week we helped BIL James  remove two huge pine tree stumps from the yard and polished off the remaing leaf piles by burning them in the burn pit. Things are shaping up for what looks  like might be a great spring around here. If the weather history repeats itself this should be our last of cold weather which traditionally occurs before Easter weekend. (Click on any picture to enlarge)

The fruit trees in the area are already blooming and by Easter weekend we should start seeing the Dogwood trees popping out with their blooms.
P.S.The snow has started up again. It is getting larger and there is more of it.
