Events Of My Cataract Surgery

We returned last Monday from Canton First Monday and set the motorhome up. We needed to do this before my surgery Tuesday morning. We were up at 4:30 am and left for the eye clinic at 5 am. We checked in at 6:30 am and signed all the necessary papers for the surgery. The nurse took me back and did all the pre-op things and took me back to the surgical area. There were four more patents already there  on  gurneys  waiting their turn. After hooking me up and giving me that stuff that makes you fell as if you were in a twilight zone but not completely under.

I was out of the surgery by 8:30am and setting in the waiting room for my walking papers to be signed. Sandy and a nurse came down and took me by both arms (I could not see as my left eye had a patch and my right eye I just can’t see that well) and walked me to the Jeep. I was starving to death as I had nothing prior to 10pm Monday night.

We drove to a nearby Whataburger that had a Hollywood theme as their decor. The doors to the Men's and Women's bathrooms had large pictures of Marylyn Monroe and James Dean on them. The ceiling had a neon light guitar on it and a 55 Vet was on one of the walls. I had a little difficult feeding myself as everything was just a blur due to poor vision in the right eye. We left there for home where I crashed for the remainder of the day.

I had a follow up visit with the eye surgeon Wednesday morning where he said everything was looking good and probably I would not need to wear my glasses after the eye completely healed. As of this date I can see without them except for reading and/or writing. I am wearing reading glasses as I write this blog. We also learned that the day I had my surgery my doctor did twenty four more that day. While leaving the office we received a call from VA Sleep Apnea Clinic in Shreveport advising that my CPAP machine did not arrive and rescheduled my visit for this past Thursday at 1 pm.

We arrived and what a surprise we had as the machine was nothing we had envisioned as It also had a humidifier. We spent not quite an hour with the tech going over it’s usage and care. I’ve slept with the CPAP machine now for three nights and so far no problems.

At night I have to wear an eye shield over the left eye and with the full mask I look like some creature. Also Sandy puts three different eye drops in the left eye four times a day. I go back this coming Wednesday where I’m hoping he will release me for normal duties. It feels strange not to be wearing glasses for normal viewing, watching TV, or driving.

The reading glasses right now is all that I need except for sun glasses when outside. Also I might add everything from the left eye are crispy clear and the colors are amazing.

Until next time…MtnAire Travlers.

  1. Isn't it great not to have to wear glasses,Glad to hear you are almost 100% recovered. a couple years ago when I started taking medicine for type 2 diabetes, my doctor said that my vision might change, surprisingly to me when I went to get my DOT physical for my CDL I had to take my glasses off to pass the test. I went to the eye doctor and along with a complete check for any damage due to the start of diabetes, he said your vision has improved to the point that instead of 20/80 it is now 20/40 a 505 improvement, I no longer have to wear glasses to drive but like you I still have a new prescription for reading,In this case getting old isn't so bad. be safe out there. 2. That's great news about your eye surgery, Weldon. It's amazing that you can see so well so soon after the surgery.

  3. Sounds like a successful proceedure to me. I am so glad your eyesight is doing so well. Hopefully the doctor will agree and set you free when you see him next.
