February 2010 Canton First Monday Was A Dud

For the 23 plus years we’ve been coming to Canton First Monday, we finally have a record for the lowest sales ever. To tell you how bad it was we like every vendor here all had record low sales. For the four day period we managed to jangled our cash register only eleven times and obviously did not make our expenses. The weather I’m sure had a lot to do with it as we never saw the sun expect for a brief period this afternoon. It was wet, damp, cold and just down right miserable weekend.. Why would one want to get out in this anyway. I know if it was me I wouldn’t have ventured out. Now that we have this behind us we are looking forward to the March First Monday. Things can get only better.

Today was our typical Sunday crowd a day where it seems every other customer had his fur animal out for a stroll down the aisles. We could have had a dog show. Most of them had on their sweaters and looked down right cute. One couple came by with a Great Dane that I swear might have had a little horse in him. The biggest dog I’ve ever seen.

After helping our neighbors tear down and load out we loaded our product into the motor home. Rather than drive back to Lone Star tonight, we decided to move over to the creek where they have full hook ups. Sandy wanted to do some laundry and I needed to drain our black/gray water tanks. I usually do this at the Loves Truck Stop about ten miles down I-20. We will get up early in the morning have breakfast and head out to Lone Star. Since we had to run the old furnace a lot more this time we will need to refill the propane tank before going into base. This place we go to and have been going to since we moved to this area only charges us the home rate instead of the the RV rate. This usually saves us about $0.30 per gallon.

Have a fabulous STRESS FREE day!!stress free day

Until next time….MtnAire Travlers.

  1. Did you ever think of skipping First Monday for a while? Sounds like the "buyers" skipped this time, and only the looky-loos came by!

  2. From reading blogs about RV'ers staying in Texas this winter, it sounds like they are all getting a bit discouraged by the lousy weather. I'm sure that's the reason for the poor turnout in Canton. It's nothing that a few weeks of solid sunshine won't cure!
